Mindful Ramblings
The most promising new artist in such a long time.

My friend (let's call her Flabby) just sent me a burned copy of the new Norah Jones cd. Currently, I'm listening to song number two, so I haven't gotten all the way through it, but...damn. It looks as though her sophomore effort is every bit as her first.

This young woman has in droves what most of the young music performers today don't even understand the meaning of: dignity. Here is a young woman in whom natural beauty abounds. The best thing: She doesn't flaunt it. She doesn't wear the damnable skimpy clothes made famous by B. Spears and C. Aguilera, the latter of the two who had ENORMOUS potential and extreme talent.

Norah's songs are sad yet hopeful, painful yet optimistic. This, to me, is perfect road trip music...something you can just put in and not have to pay all your attention to because it just sets the mood. It puts me in mind of smoky jazz joints, places where you can just sit and listen, or read a book or finish an assignment. Just try to describe her voice without using the word "sultry". I would marry this woman just so she could sing me to sleep at night.

Okay, enough blind praise for now. Though I must say if Norah Jones represents the next step in pop music, I'll gladly renew the subscription I cancelled five years ago.

Imajinit, it is rolling.

Pfft. I don't think anyone in their right mind could think Spears&Aguilera hold a candle to Norah Jones. Given the choice, I'd rather have a conversation with Norah Jones than a naked, baby oil-soaked romp with the other two...

I loooove Norah Jones......'I Don't Know Why' was my anthem for a while last year.

Oh, I love Norah Jones! I've been thrilled to see her popularity growing.

Yes, I agree Fawn. She's underground sensation with a pop following...truly amazing.

I've always love soft, soulful jazz. To see it take a new rise in popularity warms my heart.

P.S. Norah, if you're out there, gimme a call sometime

BakerStreet - hmm, I'm so enticed by the "baby-oil soaked romp," I'm not sure if I'd care who else was involved.

Secondly, I of course need to throw in a vote for morphine for sexy music...sultry is probably an inappropriate word...sexy and subtle are more fitting. The song "you look like rain" may be a good one to start with.

Chris - great last sentence to this post. Would make an excellent ending to a music review. I may have to steal it if I ever find a reason to do so.

Hmmm....maybe I should put

at the end of all my posts, eh, Fawn?

Chris-

Norah is definitely one of my favs.

But if you get to be in love with Norah Jones...then i believe i will be in love with Jason Mraz. Check him out (his live CD is especially nice)

Unfairman - yep, I would. I've added it to mine recently because of a book I'm reading about submitting articles to magazines. But that ole Suspeckted can still quote you!
