Here's what I hate: I was sitting down watching Comedy Central, trying to enjoy The Daily Show (this topic is not up for discussion, I do enjoy it) when I was completely grossed out during the commercial breaks. They showed numerous times ( I don't recall how many) people (or puppets) vomiting all over the place or sneezing huge gobs of snot across the room. I mean, seriously? Is this what passes for comedy these days? I don't watch either of the shows that were being advertised because of ...

Here I sit, 2 am on a Saturday, and I've just finished Stephen King's "Wolves of the Calla: The Dark Tower V". Here are my thoughts, in brief. First off, great book. If you're not familiar with the Dark Tower series, you should be. It's Stephen King's greatest, most far-reaching work, encompassing (at least in part) half of his novels. It tells the story of Roland Deschain, las of the Gunslingers and his obsessive quest for the Dark Tower, the axiom on which the entire universe spins. The n...

When we do our after-hours closing duties at the store (sweeping, mopping, counting down tills and what have you) we always change the radio station from Golden Oldies or Hot Hits to a rap station (we have XM radio). I don't know if they play the same songs at the same time every night, but I'm getting really sick of the crap they play. Mostly it's Nelly and Fifty-Cent...I can't believe how lame those lyrics are. Example: "I just look at you and wonder how you got in those pants" (or somet...

This was originally written as a reply to the "Rolling Stone's top 50" article, but I liked it and would like to enlighten others on the glory of Pearl Jam, if they are so interested. Reply, folks, and I'll let you know what's what! Thank you, Sean, for giving a shout out to Pearl Jam. As a major fan, it's often difficult to distance myself from the band enough to look at them objectively. But, many of my friends and other people I've "polled" who were alive in the 90's, even though they'r...

I've been a fan of baseball for the past few years now. I had a minor interest in the sport as a kid, but I was one of the multitude who lost interest after the Player's Strike of a decade ago. At that point in my life, the only strike I understood occured when a batter whiffed a fastball. My interest peaked again a few years ago, when my homestate Minnesota Twins became real contenders. I know, I know...you think I'm a bandwagoner. At that point, I admit, I was. But then I got a look at t...

My friend (let's call her Flabby) just sent me a burned copy of the new Norah Jones cd. Currently, I'm listening to song number two, so I haven't gotten all the way through it, but...damn. It looks as though her sophomore effort is every bit as her first. This young woman has in droves what most of the young music performers today don't even understand the meaning of: dignity. Here is a young woman in whom natural beauty abounds. The best thing: She doesn't flaunt it. She doesn't wear th...

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I was listening to Pearl Jam on the way home from work, and it really proved drove home the point I was making the other day about crappy lyrics in popular songs. Here's a contrast. Nelly "Pimp Juice" "Pimp juice - oooohoooooohhooooooooooohhh I think I need to let her loose (might think I need to let her loose) Let her loose, let her loooooose She only want me for my pimp juice (that's all she want me for f'real) Not my pimp juice, I'm talkin he...
